Tepper By Sheri S. The writing is at times beautifully descriptive, haunting and often quite disturbing. The Hunt is a central feature of society in Grass. I enjoyed riding quite a bit when I was youth, and I get being into horsemanship and horses themselves.

It is surrounded by swamp. I find it interesting that Tepper, well known as a feminist writer, has chosen to set her book in a society controlled by religion, both ‘Sanctity’ and ‘Old Catholic’ and both of those religions portrayed as pretty fundamentalist in graxs and very definitely male dominated. It seems to unnecessarily meander at times, leaving the reader yawning and tepper why the plot isn’t being advanced. Rillibee returned and told them all the news of the burnings and deaths.

But it’s the way the book kept cutting my feet out from under me with assumptions I didn’t realize I was making that I’m going to remember. Then I read Grass. Thanks for the well written review suggesting it. I would love to find the time to write a real review of this one at some point. There are places on Grass with trees and swamps, but few venture beyond the grass and return to tell the tale.
Hierophants occupied nearly all the apartments. Thematically the book is well-intentioned and often thought-provoking, but also heavy-handed–it never grows simplistic and characters are often anything but, but some of the human elements threaten to move in that direction.

As against the Old Catholic religion of Marjorie, and her Old Catholic religious anxieties, there is Sanctity, a powerful religion of fanaticism and hypocrisy dedicated to the suppression of individual identity. I look forward to reading the 2nd book shwri the series soon.
The novel should have been shorter to be more accessible. Marjorie suggested a pet. Tepper gives the reader many clues, and they solve much of the mystery themselves–too early. Syl thought his father was crazy to make any of his children hunt.
